The 8170 engine uses an optimized match of high-pressure fuel pump, turbocharger, injector, valves, and combustion chamber shape. This refined combination gives the engine wide power coverage and a torque reserve greater than 30%. As a result, the engine keeps strong output, fast response, and superior power performance compared with similar products in its class.

Fuel Efficient and Cost-Saving

With four-valve technology and a pulse-conversion turbocharger, the 8170 engine brings in more air and burns fuel more completely. Its wide economic operating range helps ships reduce fuel cost, and its minimum fuel consumption rate can reach 191g/kW·h, offering strong efficiency during long voyages.

Smooth, Quiet, and Environmentally Friendly

Key components are strengthened to reduce vibration, allowing the engine to reach Class A performance at Level 11. Noise levels are also 5 dB lower than comparable engines, reaching advanced global standards. At the same time, the Weichai 8170 marine engine meets IMO Tier II and China Stage I emission requirements.

Practical Functions for Safer Marine Operation

The engine features Weichai’s unique “Voyage Guardian” monitoring system, which tracks speed, water temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, and other key parameters in real time. When any value goes beyond its limit, the system can automatically alarm or stop the engine. In addition, the wind-and-wave mode keeps the engine running during rough sea conditions, helping ships maintain safety at critical moments.
