The engine uses an optimized air-intake and fuel-supply system, which widens the economic operating range. As a result, the WD12 keeps fuel use low under common working conditions. Its minimum fuel consumption rate reaches 197 g/kW·h, helping owners reduce daily running cost during long trips.

The WD12 supports optional LCD smart gauges that monitor speed, water temperature, oil temperature, and oil pressure in real time. When any parameter goes beyond the safe range, the system gives an alarm and can stop the engine to protect it. In addition, the engine includes a wave-mode function, which helps keep the vessel running during rough sea conditions. Because the WD12 has a large market base, spare parts are easy to find and maintenance stays convenient for ship owners.
